maddening research

i'm taking a little break from the mad research that i'm undertaking. maybe i should just divulge whatever i'm doing here, perhaps it will make more sense.

1.) Human Genetics Media Project: XX genotype males

Remember elementary biology which tells us that a pair of X chromosomes in humans result in a female being developed, and an X and a Y resulting in a male phenotype?

Well, there's a special case in reality where XX genotype-bearing humans turn out to manifest themselves as males. How is that possible?

One way is through the crossing over of essential information in the Y chromosome into the X chromosome during meiosis. A specific region in the Y chromosome, called the "SRY region", is transferred over to the X chromosome, thus enabling a XX human to develop male genitalia and characteristics. However, it is not a threat to humanity as it cannot be passed on to descendants, simply because such XX males are mostly infertile, incapable of reproducing.

Well, that mechanism has had its new exceptions, where the SRY is not passed over to the X chromosome, and recently, (about a month ago), some researchers from Italy discovered that another gene, not found in the sex chromosomes, can be responsible for this. A mutated R-spondin 1 gene can push gonad development of an XX female towards that of a male.

I am tasked to give a lecture on this in two weeks. All my PW skills are resurging in my veins.

But of course, none of you will really appreciate what I just wrote. (or maybe some geeks like Geoff will.)

2.) Justification of the system of Hell in Dante's Inferno.

Why is betrayal deemed as a greater sin than murder/violence in the eyes of Dante?

ok enough enough. all these papers are killing me.

I just realized that the photo I showed down there made me look a bit fat. I decided that it's the fault of the beret. hahaha

Finally, in response to Geoff's quote:

"I don't have chicken rice or ski mountains, but I have nice scenery."

Well, I don't have any of all that. Hmmm... but I have an experience that will prepare me for the rigors of adult life. Really, simply by existing, you learn compromise, cooperation, tolerance, and most of all, resource allocation. hahaha and yes, I do have occassional visitors.

Don't worry, I will visit once I'm free.
